the week in workout

On Monday, I hung out with Jason, so no workout that day.
Tuesday - 5 mile run at Lake Johnson - It was the first non-treadmill run for the Brooks. No problems. (7.5 miles on the shoes so far)
Wednesday - 7 mile bike ride - hilly Umstead route
Thursday - Weights: upper and lower and 40 minute treadmill run - pace low 11s upper 10s 3.5 miles (11 miles total on the shoes) Heart rate: 140s

Saturday and Sunday

Saturday I helped a friend move from one third floor apartment to another third floor apartment. I could have worked out, but I was tired and my form would've been terrible. Instead, I went shoe shopping. I got some running shoes that do not irritate my bone spur so much. Welcome to the family (of running shoes that litter my floor) Brooks Adrenaline!

Sunday is a workout extravaganza! I rode my bike from Godbold park to Cemetery Hill and back; it took about 2 hours. I stretched and had lunch, then I went to the gym. I worked upper and lower body, and I tested my new shoes by running and walking on the treadmill for 20 minutes: about a mile and a half. The Adrenalines are not perfect, but they are a huge step in the right direction.

Thursday and Friday

Jason's dad came into town Thursday night. Tearing through the house with a vacuum cleaner in a vain attempt to keep the dust bunnies at bay before company arrives could be considered exercise. Not sure how to log that, but it's duly noted.

Friday, I ran 5 miles at Lake Johnson. I felt draggy. This feeling is common if I try to run on the first or second day of my period. Ha! Bet you did not see that TMI coming, gotcha;-)

Sweet and sour

Monday: gym upper and lower - 2.7 miles on the treadmill
Tuesday: off - visited orthopedist - my foot needs surgery, no question:-(
My orthotic set-up is good for now, but my big toe will only get worse if it is not fixed. At least, my knee seems to be responding to all the gym work.

A week of "firsts"

These are not first time events, but they have not happened in a while. This past week is my first 20 mile week since December 2009.

Also, Saturday I ran 7 miles (not including warm-up and cool down). I ran for an hour and 23 minutes. The purpose of this workout was to go the distance slow and easy. With that time, this run was a resounding success!

After my run, Jason and I bombed on up to Floyd, VA. We attended a wine reception on Sunday with Jason's dad, Chip, and Sheree. We are back home trying to get ready for the week.

Wednesday: Gym - upper and lower - 2.8 miles on the treadmill, pace low 11s upper 10s - piriformis giving me trouble again - ice and Aleve
Thursday: 5 miles at Lake Johnson easy - and now Rupal's Drag Race

I walked a lot and ran 5.5 miles yesterday, both knees achy again. It's is time to go back to the ortho. There is a walking competition at work. Maybe I am taking it too seriously.

Good run today

The 5 mile loop at Lake Johnson felt good today. I'm getting more power from the ground up through my legs. I think my legs just have to get used to my new gait. My knees ached a little, but it was negligible. The pace was mostly easy with a half mile tempo and 100 meters hard. The temperature was 65 degrees F with low humidity. I have to work in a little casual speed practice now before it gets too hot and humid.

My left arch aches a little, I'll ice it as a precaution.

Friday and Saturday

Friday was a day off. I walked around downtown. Had a beer at Natty Greene. The beer was good; I had the amber. The menu looked like standard bar food. Maybe I'll try something later, but what I saw did not excite me.

Saturday: Weights upper and lower - 30 minutes on the elliptical machine - worked in the yard
